The Burlington Chiefs Junior A Lacrosse Club
Welcome back for the the 2nd year of the New Burlington Junior A Chiefs lacrosse team. We are very satisfied with the resurgence of the program and there seems to be a lot to be excited about.
We only lost one player to overage after the 2007 season, that being transition
player Bryan Johnson who was our defender of the year. It is a big whole to
fill, but our youngsters seem to be ready to help fill that void.
We feel we had a tremendous draft, picking Ethan O’Connor a very large
skilled transition player from Milton who played Junior B for our affiliate
in Oakville last year as an under age player and he will be a force in years
to come. We also took a very talented and skilled forward from the Elora minor
system in Brady Heseltine, who is really pushing to make the big club this
year.
We also say goodbye to Brent Vandenberg who plays hockey for the Cougars and
is going to focus on his hockey career and Brandon Turner who is going out
west to play his lacrosse this year.
We have acquired Tyler Midwinter from the Hamilton junior B team and he is
having a tremendous camp and looks like someone who could replace Johnson
and all the little things BJ did for us.
Our offence is all returning, led by our leading scorer Ryan Learn, and returning
forwards Kevin Brownell who had a tremendous year at Western this year in
their field season, Dylan MacDougall who is at a full camp with us for the
first time in his junior career, Justin Wilson –Kirby our little fire
plug, who may be small but is one of the most courageous young men in the
game, also Chris Moulson who will be back for his second year and will be
attending Cornell in 2009, Tommy Hurley who was Chief of the Year in 2007
and Under 19 Team Canada player Kiel Matisz who will be a force to reckon
with in 2008.
Our defence will be led by our MVP, Dan MacRae who was nothing short of incredible
in 2007, our captain Brenden Farrer, Matt Hicks who has come to camp this
year in fantastic shape and will go back to his natural position on defence,
which adds a lot of toughness on the back end, also back are veterans Brad
Galante, Chris Downey & Matt Bertrand, and then our speedy athletic core
with Cameron Mann, Alex Crepinsek, Jordan MacIntosh, rookie of the year Connor
Daly and last but certainly not least hard nosed and very fast Scott Johnston.
Our goaltending is solid once again with Gary Muzzin back for his second year
with The Chiefs and 3rd year tender Under 19 Team Canada member Jason Crawford,
who had an unbelievable freshman year at Brock University. We have nothing
to worry about with our last line of defence.
General Manager is pleased to have his coaching staff all back and Coach Cardy
and his partners Craig Hedley & Mark Baldini expect nothing but more improvement
in 2008 and will accept nothing less.
Be aware the schedule is posted on the website and be advised we have
home exhibition games on Monday, May 5, 2008 @ 8 p.m. versus KW
and Saturday, May 10 @ 7 p.m. versus Toronto.
Join in on some Chiefs excitement in 2008 and come make some noise!!!
The Burlington Jr. A Lacrosse Club is excited to continue our affiliation with The Oakville Buzz, both teams are poised to continue the development of players in the South Halton region.
The goal is not only to make the playoffs again in 2008 but to be considered
contenders at both Junior A & Junior B levels.
With a strong returning number of players and the addition of a few key acquisitions
we feel The Chiefs & The Buzz will both be forces to reckon with this
year. The coaching staff is led by Head Coach Shawn Cardy, and Assistant Coaches
Craig Hedley & Mark Baldini & General Manager Glen Little.
Oakville Buzz will be led by Head Coach Stuart Brown, Assistant Coach Craig
Henderson and General Manager Ken Gillies.
